Adults, ages 18 to 70, who are in good physical and mental health are invited to participate in this research study. The goal of the study is to create a list of pre-qualified research volunteers who would like to participate in additional NIMH studies at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
The study has 2 parts.
Part one is an online study. It takes about 45 minutes to complete, it includes:
- Signing up and consenting to participate in the study
- Completing physical and mental health questions
After completing all questions, those who are eligible for part two of the study may be invited to the NIH.
Part two, if qualified, is by invitation to in-person visits at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland that may include:
- Psychological assessments
- Physical exam, blood tests, and urine tests
- Optional brain scans: (MRI) and brain magnetoencephalogram (MEG)
There is no cost to participate. Transportation may be provided for NIH visits. Compensation of up to $410 is provided for the in-person visits and optional brain scans. Compensation is not provided for the online questionnaires.
Research volunteers in good health play a vital role in biomedical research by helping scientists advance knowledge and better understand, treat, and ultimately improve physical and mental health. The study seeks to help NIMH understand why some people are affected by mental illness while others are not. The confidential health data gathered in this study is compared to those with mental health conditions.
