Does HIV Infection contribute to dementia and depression?

This research study seeks to understand how HIV infection affects the brain, moods, memory, thinking and concentration and how it may contribute to dementia and depression. Researchers will compare persons with and without HIV infection.

This study is currently enrolling adults ages 40 years and older who speak English fluently and are HIV positive and free of certain medical conditions (call to find out). Participation may include annual visits, cognitive evaluations, medical history, physical exam, blood work, and brain scans, and spinal taps.

The study is conducted at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. There is no cost to participate. Compensation is provided. Transportation may be provided. Health insurance is not required to participate.
