Several investigational studies are measuring proteins in the brain and body using Positron Emission Tomography (PET) technology to better understand the biological basis of mental illness and to eventually pave the way for new treatments.
These studies are enrolling eligible health volunteers ages 18 years of age and older, who are in good health (without a current or history of mental or neurological illness), are free of certain medical conditions (call to find out), and who can lay flat and still for up to 3 hours.
Study participation may include: One to five study visits (outpatient); Physical examination, medical history; EKG; blood tests; PET imaging (brain and/or body scans); MRI imaging (brain scans); intravenous and/or arterial lines to inject an investigational drug or to withdraw blood.
The studies are conducted at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Md. Transportation is provided for those who live in the local DC, MD, VA metro area. There is no cost to participate. Compensation may be provided up to $1,240.
