Overview
This webinar provided an opportunity to hear from experienced scientific workforce diversity thought leaders about exciting and innovative initiatives at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) designed to promote inclusive excellence in the extramural research ecosystem.
The NIH has long recognized that every facet of the scientific research enterprise requires a wide range of skill sets and viewpoints from a pool of highly talented scientists from diverse backgrounds . Nevertheless, advancements in scientific research, information, educational and research opportunities are not equally available to all. The Chief Officer for Scientific Workforce Diversity (COSWD) Office leads NIH’s effort to diversify the national scientific workforce and expand recruitment and retention.
The NIH established UNITE to identify and address structural racism within the NIH-supported and the greater scientific community. These efforts bolster the NIH’s effort to continue striving for diversity within the scientific workforce and racial equity at NIH and within the extramural community.
