This webinar focused on strategies for developing a successful individual training grant application. Attendees heard from National Institutes of Health (NIH) staff about important aspects to consider when writing their research aims, training goals, training plan, candidate statement, and mentorship plan. They also heard from two successful NIH-funded researchers who have mentored numerous mentees in writing individual training awards.

About the Speakers

Susannah Allison, Ph.D., is the Training Director within the Center for Global Mental Health Research and the Division of AIDS Research at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Dr. Allison oversees a portfolio of training grants in global mental health and grants that focus on how best to prevent HIV infection among children, adolescents, and young adults and how to improve the health outcomes of youth living with HIV. Dr. Allison is co-chair of the Sexual and Gender Minority Research Coordinating Committee at NIH.

The Center for Global Mental Health Research within NIMH is hosting a series of webinars focused on writing, submitting, and managing global NIH mental health research grants. We encourage students, post-docs, and new investigators interested in global mental health research to attend. The goals of the webinar series are to increase knowledge about NIH structure and grant processes and enhance capacity in global mental health research.
